A Year Well Loved
I have been doing this blog for about a year.
And we have come full circle.
Fall is beginning to shine again.
And the air is finally cool.
As I look back upon this year.
Of walking.
Seeing.
Thinking.
And writing.
There are two things about this year that make me very proud.
First, that I could do all these wonderful things.
Despite my state of extreme antiquity.
And second, that I did them all.
While the idea of getting outside.
Almost every day.
In almost every way.
And walking hundreds and hundreds of miles.
In all weathers.
To see this glorious world.
Was not exactly in vogue.
I told my friend Rebecca that I don’t measure my walks in miles.
Because I would never bother with some silly gadget that tracks my steps.
I have two instruments that tell me when I have had enough.
And I never forget to take them with me.
So I just measure my walks in hours.
And then she asked, “What do you think about during all that time?”
Well, I think of this.
And this.
And this.
And this.
And this.
And this.
And this.
I think about what Milton called “the Book of knowledge fair”.
Which we call the world.
And doesn’t this glorious world.
Deserve far more of our daily attention.
Than most people ever give it?
I have enjoyed this past year.
To the very best of my ability.
And I can promise you two things:
That next year I will love this fabulous world even more.
If that is technically possible.
And that I will keep sharing that love with you.
Because, as I always say, sharing is caring.
